Found a maintainer who has started a new fork of the pftpfxp project. He has created a package that incorporates all of the features I've been supplying patches for. The new pftp-shit project can be found at http://www.derijk.org/pftp/
I will cease patch maintenance for the original and mew editions of pftpfxp in favor of mirroring pftp-shit.

2006.12.18 - I'm going to stop keeping the Gentoo Bugzilla Bug #150846 updated as the maintainers have no interest in including the new source in the official portage tree until Sander has ~5 months of maintenance under his belt. You can still find all updates to both the src and the ebuild in my ReMOSitory.

2006.12.17 - Since this ebuild is not getting put into the official portage tree I've included some hacks that are considered unacceptable by Gentoo's ebuild development guidelines. If you are going to use this ebuild it's assumed you know how to work with a local portage overlay and therefore you can handle the required customizations. Most notably, I've added the pre-compile config.h to the ${FILESDIR} of the package so that a user can manipulate some of the hardcoded defaults as they need. Place the config.h.conf located in my ReMOSitory into $PORTDIR_OVERLAY/net-ftp/pftpfxp/files/ and edit it prior to emerging. Remember to update the package digest after changing this file. This is how it needs to be until Gentoo adds the customconf eclass in a future portage release.

2006.10.11 - Entered new bug in Gentoo Bugzilla along with working ebuild to bump net-ftp/pftpfxp from the dead pftp-mew6 source to pftp-shit. In the meantime you can download the src from http://www.derijk.org/pftp/ as well as the src and the ebuild from my ReMOSitory.
